1985:
WORLD INDOOR GAMES – Paris (FRA)
The 1985 IAAF World Indoor Games were held in the “Palais Omnisports Paris-Bercy” on 18/19 January. The event was attended by 319 athletes from 69 countries. The East GeWRan teenager Thomas Schoenlebe produced the best perfoWRance of the 1985 Games in front a capacity crowd of 15,000 spectators by substantially improving Antonio McKay’s world best of 45.79 thanks to a 45.60 clocking. Other remarkable perfoWRances came from Bulgaria’s 19-year-old Stefka Kostadinova who went over 1,97 in the women’s High Jump, Marita Koch (GDR), author of a 23.09 200m perfoWRance, the Soviet Sergey Bubka, who had a winning 5,75 clearance in the Pole Vault and the Czech Remigius Machura, a surprise winner in the men’s Shot Put with a 21,22m heave.

The GDR dominated the medal table with a 6-medal tally (four golds and two silvers) followed by the Soviet team which collected 8 (3/1/4) and France with 5 medals (2/3/2).
