QATAR ATHLETICS WIN 4 MEDALS IN THE ARAB CHAMPIONSHIP IN SYRIA

The Qatari national team of athletics succeeded to win “4″ colorful medals at the end of the Arab Championship for men and women categories, which was held in the Syrian capital Damascus during the period from 6 to 9 October 2009, with the participation of 18 Arab countries represented by 505 athletes, namely: Jordan, Iraq , Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Yemen, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunis, Morocco and Syria, the host country. The Qatari participating champions competed strongly with honor and determination to seize medals. Nicolas Kimbeoi won the gold medal in the half-marathon and the silver medal of the 10,000 m, while his fellow runner James Kuwalia won the gold medal of the 5000 m clocking (14:04:22 minutes). Also, the Qatari champion Mubarak Al-Nubi who showed a strong return from injury seized the third place and bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles clocking ( 51:74 s). Qatar occupied the 11th rank with (2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze), while the Kingdom of Morocco was crowned champion and topped the ranking order with 8 gold, 13 silver and 7 bronze.

It is worth mentioning that the Qatari team consisted of 18 athletes. They are: (Mohammed Essa Al-Thawadi 110-meter hurdles – Bella Musab al-Rahman 400 m – James Quaglia 1500 – Mohammed Karni in 1500 – Nicholas Kemboi 10,000 m – Jamal Bilal Salem half-marathon – Mubarak Al-Nubi 400-meter hurdles – Mabrook Salem Nasser 20m walk – Ibrahim Babiker in triathlon – Badr Hashim Khamis in pole vault – Ahmed Mohammed Dib in discus throw – Ahmed Moussa in javelin – Mohamed Fadl Mohannadi in javelin – Mohammad Qasim Amin in shot put – Muhammad Faraj Al-Kaabi in hammer throw- Khalid S. in Hammer – sprinter Dana Misbah in 100m – 200m  – Sheikha Saqr Dosari in javelin – and Salma Al-Khalidi in the shot put event. The Qatari delegation was headed by Mr. Yaqoub Abdullah a Member of the QAAF Board of Directors, and accompanied by Ms. Mariam Al Isaac QAAF Board member as a director of the
women team.
