Qatar Embraces Gold in Doha 2009 Gymnasiade

HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary of the Supreme Education Council awarded the Qatari champion Ahmed Amer the gold medal in the hammer throw event during the athletics competitions at the school games fourteenth Gymnasiade- Doha 2009. The victory was launched at the Aspire Academy. The QAAF President Mr. Abdullah Al-Zaini participated in the awarding ceremony, and assured to media that this gold medal is the start of the search for more medals.
Qatar’s Ahmed Amer did not achieve the medal easily, but there was a hard competition from several competitors of the game from different countries participating in the Doha Gymnasiade. It is expected that Amer makes similar results in the challenges in the coming period, where he is tipped to play in the world championships and also in the Gulf, Arab and Asian Games for young people next year. It is worth notice that Ahmed Amer is one of the students in the Sports Excellence Academy “Aspire” which hosts the competitions of the current 2009 Gymnasiade in Doha. Aspire hailed the victory that proved its accomplishments.
On other hand, Yana Bordowina of Russia claimed gold medal of triple jump event for girls while Jandina Ramos of Spain captured silver medal and Jantin Asanio of France bagged the bronze medal.In the high jump for girls, Trost Alessia of Italy came first setting a new record by jumping a height of 1.89 metres followed by Russia’s Kuchina Maria and Estonia’s Haas Elerin. In the 400metres hurdles for boys, Bencosme De Leon of Italy came first, Magi Rasmus of Estonia second and Li Yikun of China was placed third. In the 100 metres boys, Arthur Jordan of Great Britain was placed first, compatriot Bolarinwa David second, and Fan Meng-Chen of Chinese Taipei third. The 100metres girls event saw Nguyen Anastztazi of Hungary coming first, followed by Italian Bongiorni Anna and Komszar Kristza of Hungary. In the 400metres hurdles for girls, Celi Lisa Elvira of Australia came first, Kolesnychenko Olena of Ukraine second and Hungarian Vincze Dorina third. In 400metres for Girls finals, Slyusarenko Kateryna of Ukraine was placed first, Matthias Christine of Luxembourg second and Hungarian Lorand Lilla third. In the shot put for girls, Shi Xuewei of China came first, her compatriot Gu Syu second and Russia’s Troneva Natalia third. In the 400metres boys final, Deak Nagy Marcell of Hungary was placed first, followed by Italians Tricca Mitchelle and Re Davide. In the discuss throw for girls, Klochko Viktorila of Ukraine came first, China’s Gu Siyu second and Boaro Elisa third. The discuss throw for boys witnessed Klatsina Michael of Cyprus coming first, Zankawi Eisa of Kuwait second and Russia’s Derkach Pavel third. Mohd Ahmed and Omar Eissa of Qatar also qualified for the finals in long jump for boys and discuss throw for boys, respectively.
QAAF President Abdullah Al-Zaini: Strong Performance towards Further Achievements
The QAAF President Mr. Abdullah Al-Zaini expressed to media his optimism that the Qatari athletes succeeded in achieving greater achievements after the gold medal achieved by the player, as the gold medal of Ahmed Amer in the hammer throw encouraged them for seizing more medals and it marks a good sign for our promising athletics. Mr. Al-Ziani added that he “expects the medal achieved by Ahmed Amer will not be the only one to Qatar as there are more champions who have the will to win more medals, including a champion in the decathlon event who came second in the world championship.” The QAAF president pointed out that ” medals are not the main goal of this sporting event, but there are other important targets including the creation of good relations among athletes and increasing their experiences and also to expand the base of participation in the game where events like this encourage students to exercise athletics and this one of the indirect benefits gained by the organization of such big events in our country”.
Mr, Khalil Al-Jaber: Gold Marks a Good Start
Mr. Khalil Al-Jaber, the director of the gymnasiade praised the performances of the competitors saying ” the technical level of the contestants so far is good, especially in the age groups of the three games in respect to the world standards of the age groups , and we are pleased to see such levels.” Mr. Al- Jaber added ” we are very happy with the gold medal achievement of our athlete Ahmed Amer in athletics as it comes in such great event involving a number of nations with the global level in all games, not only in athletics.” He emphasized that our players are able to compete in the events and reach the podium positions but this requires more effort in the competition.” He wished the participants success and raise the flag of our beloved country Qatar high in the Doha 2009 Gymnasiade.
Ali Al-Jaber: Congratulations to the Minister of Education and the Sports Scene Family
Mr. Ali Jaber, Director of Sports Management presented his congratulations on the occasion of the our player Ahmed Amer’s gold medal in athletics. He said: “I congratulate the people of this country in this great achievement. We are delighted to have the gold medal in the first session and congratulate the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Secretary of the Supreme Education Council HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, as well as all members of the Qatari delegation on this achievement.” Mr. Al-Jaber added: ” we are very happy with the organizational level of the events so far, which confirms that the State of Qatar deserves the honor of organizing this great event for the first time in an Arab world, and the organization gives us a great responsibility towards providing the best in the remaining days of the tournament.”
Ahmed Amer, the Winner of the First Medal: Golden Gift to Qatar
Qatar’s athletics champion Ahmed Amer the winner of the gold medal expressed his happiness. He said: “I am very happy to get the gold medal in the hammer throw competition. The competition was very strong by all competitors. I was lucky in the contest and won the gold medal which I consider expensive to me in my life.” Amer Ahmed added: ” I dedicate this medal to all my fellow athletes and the entire Qatari delegation, because everyone was involved in this achievement, which is for our country and I hope to make more achievements in the forthcoming competitions and perform better levels. We all have the determination and persistence to go forward in the championships.”
