q.media to be a National Partner to Doha 2010

DOHA, January 30, 2010 – The organising committee of the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics – Doha 2010 signed an agreement Thursday confirming q.media and q.media Decaux as the latest National Partner to Doha 2010.

The WIC organising committee and q.media will work together to amplify marketing activities for the championships which will take place from 12-14 March 2010.

The agreement was signed between Doha 2010 organising committee President and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and q.media Chief Executive Officer His Excellency Sheikh Al Hussain bin Ali bin Ahmad Al-Thani at the QOC headquarters in Doha Thursday.

H.E. Sheikh Saoud said the confirmation of q.media is a major boost to the organising committee’s marketing efforts for Doha 2010: “q.media is one of our biggest national partners as it provides the World Indoor Championships with broader marketing reach and professional marketing advisory services. Doha 2010 will attract the biggest names in athletics and will draw visitors from around the world. In this bright spotlight we will draw upon the expertise of q.media to present the City of Doha as a truly world class destination for sporting excellence.”

H.E. Sheikh Al Hussain said: “We are honoured to support the Doha 2010 organising committee in its efforts to position the State of Qatar as a truly modern host of all sporting events.

Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Dossari, Marketing Manager of Doha 2010 and Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Qatar Olympic Committee, says: “This is one of the most important events not just for Qatar but for the entire region and this agreement will amplify Qatar’s efforts to market itself as a truly attractive destination for investment in sport as well as the overall economy.”

Mr Al-Dossari also said that IAAF delegations visiting Qatar recently have commended the organising committee’s progress. He said q.media’s support of the WIC marketing campaign has helped ensure the innovative execution of the WIC’s outdoor marketing campaign, which is already visible across the city of Doha and even beyond.

The IAAF World Indoor Championships are also supported globally by Official IAAF Partners Adidas, Samsung, Seiko, TDK, VTB, TBS and Official IAAF Suppliers Mondo. The WIC Organising committee has in the past few weeks also confirmed Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) as a National Partner, with Virgin Megastores as a National Supplier entrusted with ticketing responsibilities via its ticketing box office website, which makes tickets available to customers globally.

Qatar is a familiar stop in the itineraries of many athletes and has hosted IAAF championship events since 1997, leading up to the Super Grand Prix held here in 2009, which will be replaced with the IAAF Diamond League meet in Doha, just a few weeks after the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The WIC Doha 2010 organising committee says it is committed to “Challenging the Limits”. The organising committee and the IAAF have said that this is a defining moment for the Arab world and perhaps the entire world, as it is the first time that such a high-profile event has come to the region. One of the major ambitions for WIC Doha 2010 is that it will set the pace for a brand new age in athletics in the region.

Inspired by its campaign slogan of “Challenging the Limits”, the organising committee have commenced the roll out of its campaign to bring visitors to the very first world athletics series event being held in Qatar.
