Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) confirmed as National Partner of Doha 2010
The organising committee of the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics (Doha 2010) has confirmed Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) as a National Partner to Doha 2010, which takes place from 12-14 March 2010.
The agreement was signed between Doha 2010 organising committee President and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and QIC Group CEO, Mr. Khalifa Al Subaei at the QOC headquarters in Doha on Sunday.
H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, QOC Secretary General announced that the opening ceremony of the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships (Doha 2010) will be staged under patronage and with attendance of H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, The Heir Apparent and President of Qatar Olympic Committee.
H.E. Sheikh Saoud said QIC is a major national partner for Doha 2010. “The WIC organising committee is honoured to establish partnerships with Qatar’s leading institutions and QIC is one of the most reputable brands in Qatar. This agreement is an indication of the overwhelming support we have been receiving in recent months from across Qatar and we are confident that more such announcements will be made in the build-up to Doha 2010.”
Mr. Khalifa Al Subaei of QIC said the company is honoured to be first National Partner of the World Indoor Championships. “Doha 2010 is one of the most important events being held in Middle East this year and brings with it significant global recognition for the State of Qatar. Supporting such events is very important for national companies and institutions such as QIC as it enables us to give back to the community and help promote Qatar’s growing status and role within the regional community.”
QIC is the first national partner confirmed for the upcoming IAAF World Indoor Championships and joins an elite roster of brands partnering the championships. Last week the WIC organising committee confirmed Virgin Megastores as a National Supplier providing the championships with ticketing solutions via its ticketing box office. Ticket reservations are now available online to customers globally.
QIC’s support of Doha 2010 is an extension of the company’s active community support program. The company is especially committed to sponsoring social, cultural and sporting events. As the first national insurance company established in Qatar and as one of the first of its kind in the GCC, QIC’s success since 1964 has been underpinned by its close community ties. It was also the first national company in Qatar to dedicate a percentage of its annual profits to support these activities.
The global stature of the IAAF World Indoor Championships is also a major draw for National Partners and Suppliers. QIC, for example, has its roots in Qatar but has in recent years grown geographically to cover the GCC region, with branches and sister companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuwait City and Al Khobar. The company also recently expanded its network to Europe through a representative office in Malta.
The company participates in all the major areas of the business including property, travel, casualty, marine, engineering, motor, medical and personal lines, as well as group insurance. QIC also participates in the regional reinsurance market. Testament to its significant growth within the industry, Standard & Poor’s in May 2009 affirmed QIC’s ‘A’ long-term counterparty credit and insurer financial strength ratings with a stable outlook.
The IAAF World Indoor Championships are also supported globally by Official IAAF Partners Adidas, Samsung, Seiko, TDK, VTB, TBS and Official IAAF Suppliers Mondo.
The WIC organising committee recently confirmed the participation of 152 countries at Doha 2010, where the world’s top athletes will compete for season-opening honours in a total of 26 sporting events, split evenly across men’s and women’s disciplines.
