IAAF to host International Media Seminar in Doha
DOHA, 25 February 2009 – As preparations for the World Indoor Championships in Athletics enter its final stage, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) hosted a Media Development Project (MDP) in Doha. The Seminar took place all day on 24 February and on the morning of 25 February, with a special afternoon session on the second day dedicated to photography.
The seminar attended by sports journalists and representatives of Qatari and International media included presentations by IAAF World Indoor Championships Event Director Mr. Abdulla Al-Zaini and WIC Doha 2010 Media Committee Head Mr. Abdulla Al-Mulla.
IAAF Presenters delivered keynotes sessions on Athletics Journalism, Putting Performances into Perspective, and the relationship between athletes and the media, all major factors that influence the reporting of major events such as the world indoor Championships.
The initiative is part of the IAAF Communications Department’s efforts to assist media representatives worldwide in their efforts to promote athletics. The Seminar programme also included presentations on the History of Athletics in Qatar, Qatari Experience in Sports Events Organisation, the Rules of Officiating in Athletics, and Developing a Champion from a coaching perspective.
The Seminar also included three Workshops, comprising practical exercises and analysis of video footage from past World Championships in Athletics.
