WIC Doha 2010 Organising Committee to host “Doha Indoor Athletic Meeting 2010”

A preparatory event for the World Indoor Championships in Athletics
 
DOHA, 25 February 2010 – The Doha 2010 Organising Committee will host the “Doha Indoor Athletic Meeting 2010” a preparatory event on 26 February 2010, two weeks prior to the World Indoor Championships in Athletics which take place from 12-14 march 2010 .

The Doha Indoor Athletic Meeting 2010 will feature athletes competing in a total of 13 events (7 for Men and 6 for Women) at the Aspire Dome.

The event is designed to test the facilities and services to be provided during the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships and will feature teams from 11 countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Doha 2010 Event Director Mr. Abdulla Al-Zaini said: “These preparatory events are customary in the buildup to major sporting events such as the IAAF World Indoor Championships. Hosting the Doha Indoor Athletic Meeting helps the organising committee ensure complete integration of the various elements and technologies that should come together and work seamlessly at the Aspire Dome during the World Indoor Championships.” 

A major part of testing the facilities is the attendance of fans, so we invite all fans in Doha to visit the Aspire Dome on Friday and watch these young athletes compete for top honors. The junior athletics meet will award prize money of $1500, $1200 and $1000 to the first second and third place finishers in each competition category.

During the one-day event, the WIC organizing committee and its subcommittees will run standardized tests on the field of play and various facilities in and around the Aspire Dome, as well as simulate the conditions that can be expected at the venue during key periods such as the opening ceremony.
During the buildup to the World Indoor Championships, the organizing committee will also review the official IAAF hotels and the gym facilities for athletes in preparation for their arrival in March.
