Spectators support will play key role in event’s success: Lamine Diack
DOHA, March 11, 2010 – Mr. Lamine Diack, President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) expressed his happiness for attending the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Accompanied by HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Chairman of the Organizing Committee at an international press conference, held at QOC headquarters Thursday, Diack appreciated the support of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani in backing athletics in Qatar.
The IAAF President also stressed upon the attendance and expects encouraging back-up from the local and expatriates living in Qatar and neighbouring countries which will play the key role in the success of the event.
Mr. Diack highlighted the development of Qatari Sport since 1997, when Doha hosted the IAAF Athletics Grand Prix.
HE Sheikh Saoud reaffirmed that Doha is proud to host the 2010 WIC and the selection of Qatar to host the event reflects the renaissance of Qatari sport in light of the continual support of HH the Emir and HH the Heir Apparent.
HE Sheikh Saoud elaborated on Qatar’s experience from hosting the 15th Asian Games, DOHA 2006, and being rewarded the rights to host the inaugural round of IAAF Diamond League on May 14, 2010.
