Qatar was a member of the athletics worldwide family since the beginning of the global Indoor event that was first organised by the IAAF in Paris, France under the name “World Indoor Games”. The first ever Qatari athlete who competed in the 1985 World Games, in January 18 was Faraj Marzouk , a 60 m runner who finished 5th in his heat with a time of 6.82. DOHA, March 09, 2010 – The Organising Committee of the IAAF 2010 World Indoor Championships in Athletics paid a productive visits to Dukhan and Ras Lafan areas recently to promote for the prestigious event will take place from March 12 – 14 at Aspire Dome here in Doha.
In last weekend, a delegate of 2010 WIC marking committee arrived in Dukhan city on west coast of Qatar on the sideline of beach volleyball championship organised there by Qatar Petroleum.

Phillips Idowu’s withdrawal hits British medal chances
Britain's medals hopes at this weekend's World Indoor Championships in Doha have been dealt a blow by the withdrawal of defending triple jump champion Phillips Idowu.
The 31 year-old, who won the world indoor crown in Valencia two years ago and added the outdoor title in Berlin last summer, said the recent birth of his second child had interrupted his preparations for the championships and he no longer felt able to do himself justice.

Isinbayeva clears 4.85m in Donetsk, Czerwinski improves to 5.82m
Yelena Isinbayeva won the Pole Vault Stars competition for the seventh time while Przemyslaw Czerwinski of Poland improved to 5.82m to take the men’s competition in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Saturday (6).
Isinbayeva set eight World records at this competition since her first appearance in 2004, but this time found her 5.00m standard well out of reach.

Aggreko to Power the WIC in Athletics
Doha, March 03, 2010- The organizing committee of the IAAF World Indoor Championships (WIC) in Athletics (Doha 2010) has confirmed Aggreko, the global leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, as a National Supplier of the event.
Aggreko will be responsible for powering lighting and broadcasting units during the World Indoor Championships which takes place at the Aspire Dome from 12-14 March 2010.
